Primary Years Programme (PYP)

BIBS Kunming a is candidacy school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP)*. Our program emphasizes active, inquiry-based learning for the development of the whole person.

Our integrated curriculum develops attitudes of respect and responsibility, and provides opportunities for leadership, action and service. In addition, BIBS provides a bilingual English and Chinese language program and emphasizes the importance of visual and performing arts, physical and social development and community service.

At BIBS Kunming the IB Primary Years Program focuses on our grade 1 to 5 students, and addresses students’ academic, social and emotional well-being. The PYP encourages students to develop independence and to take responsibility for their own learning so that they can gain an understanding of the world and function comfortably within it. Students establish personal values as a foundation upon which international mindedness develops and flourishes.

The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is a framework guided by six interdisciplinary themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject areas, as well as interdisciplinary skills, with an emphasis on inquiry.

The six subject areas identified within the IB Primary Years Program are: language, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, personal, social and physical education.

The PYP is flexible enough to accommodate the demands of most national or local curriculums and provides the best preparation for students to engage in the IB Middle Years Program.
